[HALAL COSMETIC] ALLOWED INGREDIENTS IN HALAL COSMETIC

Halal is an Arabic term which means lawful or permissible. Halal cosmetics are body and skin care products which are known to be free from the materials that are forbidden by the Islamic society.




Halal cosmetics are based on the concepts of Halal and non-Halal, Najis and Mutanajis, safety and quality. Halal cosmetic is considered as an innovation to the cosmetic industry as it introduces new external and internal operations that will serve the growing customer needs.

Cosmetics can be defined as articles intended to be applied to the human body for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance without affecting the external body.

These are several ingredients that are allowed in Halal Cosmetics ;

• Any ingredients from animals slaughtered according to Halal law. As long as it’s derived from Halal beef, beef tallow, gelatin and collagen are all permitted.

• All aquatic animals that are Halal for consumption. This means marine collagen is acceptable for use in halal cosmetic products.


• Any ingredients sourced from land animals’ fur or related material (except forbidden animals), as long as it’s harvested while the animal is still alive. This makes lanolin permitted.

• Plants and microorganisms. Botanical extracts, essential oils, allantoin and xanthan gum are all allowed

• Soil and water

• Alcohol. Although not Halal for consumption as alcoholic drinks, but permitted in cosmetics and personal care formulation.

• Synthetic materials. Any non-hazardous synthetic material is allowed in Halal cosmetics.
