Steroids, some people say that it is one of the best medicine that mankind has come up with.
Doctors will give you steroids for acne, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, folliculitis, etc. However, there are negative perceptions amongst people who use it, as they say, it is bad because due to severe side effects.
Where in the world do these negative perceptions come from?
First of all, the problem comes from steroid’s action mechanism.
Steroid is used for itchiness, erythema, inflammation and other types of skin problems. With common knowledge, you might think that steroids prevent these kinds of problems by inhibiting the substances that cause such problems. Probably some would even believe it.
However, if you look at the mechanism of action of steroids, ironically instead of restraining or removing the bacteria and causative substances that cause such skin problems, it inhibits the function of the immune system and our body’s immune cells from fighting back.
So, in fact, steroid is a strange solution that doesn’t make any sense at all.

So, in other words, steroids will only stop the inflammation for a certain time period, but if you do not cure the main reason for the skin problem and stop taking steroids then the inflammation will get worse.
